In early November, our Serra Club in Oklahoma City became an officially charted Serra Club, the newest in the world. It was truly a blessing to be there with the Archbishop, Serra Club members, and representatives from Serra International. Throughout the evening, I was reminded over and over again of the great blessing it is to be a part of this great organization that has such a beautiful role to play in building up a culture of vocations within the Archdiocese. I was also reminded of the great spiritual responsibility that being a part of this organization is. Archbishop Coakley has entrusted us with an essential task, ensuring the continued presence of the Church and the sacraments in central and western Oklahoma. It is a task to which we are called to commit time and energy every day, by prayer and work, in order to promote vocations among the people of our local church.
We are one Body in Christ, and each member of the Body has his or her role to play in the building up of the kingdom. Our role as members of Serra is to lead others towards an understanding of their own role in the building up of the kingdom. Let us embrace that role with enthusiasm and joy, knowing that the Lord is working through each one of us. I continue to pray for you every day, and I am confident that the Lord will do great things in and through this Serra Club.
