Throughout the Archdiocese, July is always somewhat of a whirlwind of activity, especially in those parishes and communities that are welcoming new priests and saying goodbye to old ones. The first few days of the month have been particularly busy for me as I adjust to my own new assignment as Pastor at Blessed Sacrament Parish and begin
Work in my new role as Associate Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese.
As I’ve made the transition from one parish to another, and into new duties within the Archdiocese, one theme has overwhelmingly dominated my prayer. I have felt drawn by almost all of the Mass readings in the last few weeks to reflect on trust. Over and over again, the Lord has reiterated the same message to me: “I’m taking care of you. Trust in my love and move forward with confidence.” It’s a very important lesson that I think all of us could learn, especially as we strive to respond generously to God’s call in our lives.
The first thing Jesus says to Peter, and the last thing he says to him in the Gospels is “Follow me.” Those words are addressed to Peter, and to each and every one of us. Let us move forward confidently in following the Lord, trusting in his mercy and love, knowing that we shall not be put to shame.
